AGI Istanbul Project: "to the city"
Project concept by Bulent Erkmen

The name "Istanbul" derives from the Byzantine Greek phrase, "eis tan polin" [istan'bolin] or "stin polin" [stim'boli], meaning "in the city" or "to the city".

In that case, first try to imagine yourself coming "to the city".
Now, prepare yourself for coming "to the city": let your face be your travel preparation; bejewel it, decorate it, change it, paint it, write on it in any language. All these alterations and additions should be "unplugged" in nature, i.e. created physically not digitally. Once your face is ready to be "in the city", take a photograph of it and send it to us in print or digital format. Take care to "make a face", representing yourself not the city.

We shall then proceed to make a book and an exhibition comprised of all the self-portraits of those who imagined themselves coming "to the city".

So, prepare your "being-in-the-city-face" and send us your photograph so that all AGI members - irrespective of whether they can or cannot actually come "to the city" - will have a book where they can see and remember each other by.
